Worldwide corporation ЕМІ is one of the four major record labels of the world. In EMI catalogue there are such stars as Enrique Caruso, Maria Callas, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Queen, Robbie Williams, Depeche Mode, Kylie Minogue and many others.
There is a huge amount of sub-labels that are located in almost every country:
EMI UK - the most powerful record company of Great Britain. It exists for more that 100 years. There are such famous sub-labels under EMI wing as Parlophone (Paul McCartney, Kylie Minogue), Chrysalis (Jethro Tull, Robbie Williams), Positiva (Shapeshifters, Ferry Corsten) etc. Real World - well known label devoted MD of which is Peter Gabriel. Label specializes on “world music”, different projects in this or that way connected with ethnic music. This label releases the albums of afro-American vocal band Blind Boys Of Alabama, Uzbek instrumentalist Sevara Nazarhan and of course Peter Gabriel’s album as well and many others. Blue Note - let’s say that it’s maybe the most famous American jazz label that exist since 1939. The noted names of Blue Note’s catalogue are Winton Marsalis, Cassandra Wilson, Joe Lovano and many others. Blue Note is also famous by its back catalogue – legendary records of 50s-70s, - amongst which are the albums of Joe Henderson, Horace Silver, Lee Morgan, Jimmy Smith etc. Recently the label started to engage the more so-called cross-over artists, who works on the meet point of different styles of music Norah Jones, Suzanne Vega, Amos Lee. Narada and Higher Octave Music are the ones of the world know labels, which release smooth-jazz, pop-jazz, ehtno-jazz and its varieties. There’s also a bunch of ethnic music, in particular it’s flamenco style. Headliners are Keiko Matsui, Govi, Acoustic Alchemy, Jesse Cook. And at last the classical music is broadly represented by EMI Classics label. Beside of the permanent remastered releases of the legendary archive records of the great musicians – Yasha Heifetz, Herbert Von Karayan and others, the company co-works with contemporary musicians like Nigel Kennedy, Mstislav Rostropovich, Maksim Vengerov and many others. EMI enlarges its catalogue all the time by mean of engaging the new labels. Like for example in 1994 ЕМІ bought the renowned label Virgin Records, which has the offices all over the world. On very Virgin label the albums of Rolling Stones, Enigma, Blue, David Guetta are released. In 2001 EMI bought the cult English label Mute Records (Depeche Mode, Moby, Nick Cave). And at last in 2005 ЕМІ signed the distribution agreement with the American companies Disney Records, Hollywood Records, and also with German label that specializes in the hard music - Century Media. EMI pays a lot of attention to the work with its sub-labels. The company tries to pick up the representative in each country. Since 2000 our company COMP MUSIC is the EMI licensee in Ukraine. In Ukraine EMI artists records are sold on imported CDs and in local licensed MC format. Since 2003 COMP MUSIC started the manufacturing of the licensed, so called “Cyrillic”, CDs. Among the bestsellers of the catalogue are - Enigma, Depeche Mode, Moby, Robbie Williams etc. In 2003 album "The Sound Of Scandinavia" of the Danish artist DJ Aligator was officially proclaimed “golden” in Ukraine, that means that we’ve sold 25’000 copies of this album. EMI company also releases album of the Ukrainian artist under the license of COMP MUSIC. In 2004 the single and the album WILD DANCES by Ruslana was released in many countries of the world, in the very beginning of 2005 року the Orange Songs of Ukrainian Revolution compilation was released in Europe, some time later more two Ruslana singles were released - Dance With The Wolves and The Same Star. At last, in 2006 the Mad Heads XL album "Nadiya Yea" is going to be released.
